BirdDog FLEX 4K OUT
Ultra-compact Full NDI decoder outputting simultaneously to HDMI 2.0 and 12G-SDI. The decode counterpart to the FLEX 4K IN — same tiny form factor, same single-cable simplicity, dual output.
- Full NDI decode to simultaneous HDMI 2.0 and 12G-SDI — receive any Full NDI source and output to both HDMI and 12G-SDI at the same time, feeding mixed-format destinations from one decoder
- Ultra-compact form factor — the decode counterpart to the FLEX 4K IN, identical compact size and construction for installation in constrained monitor positions and equipment spaces
- Everything over a single Ethernet cable — Full NDI receive, PoE+ power, tally and audio intercom all over one Cat 6 from the network switch to the decoder position
- PoE+ powered — no external power supply at the decoder position, just the single Ethernet connection
- HDMI 2.0 output at 4K60 — drives 4K HDMI monitors and displays at full Ultra HD resolution
- 12G-SDI output simultaneously — feed downstream SDI equipment at the same decoder position alongside the HDMI display
What is the BirdDog FLEX 4K OUT?
The FLEX 4K OUT is the decode counterpart to the FLEX 4K IN. Where the FLEX 4K IN converts HDMI to Full NDI at an encoder position, the FLEX 4K OUT converts Full NDI back to HDMI 2.0 and 12G-SDI at a decoder position. Both share the same ultra-compact form factor and single-cable philosophy.
The dual simultaneous outputs differentiate the FLEX 4K OUT from simpler decode devices. At a decode position, the HDMI 2.0 output feeds a 4K monitor while the 12G-SDI output simultaneously feeds downstream broadcast equipment — a router, recording device, SDI monitor chain or broadcast encoder — without a separate signal distribution device.
The FLEX 4K pair
The FLEX 4K IN and FLEX 4K OUT are complementary devices designed to work in pairs across the same NDI network. The FLEX 4K IN at a camera position encodes HDMI 4K60 to Full NDI. The FLEX 4K OUT at a monitor position decodes that Full NDI back to HDMI and SDI. Everything travels over Gigabit Ethernet between them. Single cable to each device, everything over the network.
In practice, a facility might have many FLEX 4K IN units at camera positions and many FLEX 4K OUT units at monitor and recording positions — all on the same NDI network, routed in software, with no point-to-point cabling between specific encoders and decoders.

The FLEX 4K OUT is the decode side of Full NDI infrastructure — compact, dual-output, single-cable decode to HDMI and SDI simultaneously.
4K Monitor Positions
Decode Full NDI to HDMI 2.0 at 4K60 for 4K reference monitors, UHD confidence screens and large display positions throughout a facility, with SDI continuing downstream.
Production Monitoring
Decode NDI program output to HDMI and SDI simultaneously at production desk positions — HDMI to the operator's desktop monitor, SDI to a waveform monitor or broadcast monitor.
Broadcast Decode Points
Distributed decode points throughout a broadcast facility receiving Full NDI from the production network and outputting to local HDMI displays and SDI routing inputs.
Stadium Screen Feeds
Decode Full NDI to 12G-SDI for stadium screen processors and to HDMI for local monitors at the screen control positions.
Church Display Systems
Decode NDI program output to HDMI for the main projection system and 12G-SDI for a recording device simultaneously at one compact decoder position.
AV Integration
Decode positions in NDI facility designs where the FLEX 4K OUT's compact size, dual outputs and single-cable operation match the installation requirements.
Is the FLEX 4K OUT encode or decode only?
The FLEX 4K OUT is a fixed-function decoder. It receives Full NDI from the network and outputs to HDMI 2.0 and 12G-SDI. For an encoder, see the FLEX 4K IN. For a configurable encode/decode device, see the BirdDog MINI.
What is the difference between the FLEX 4K OUT and the STUDIO MINI?
Both are Full NDI decoders with HDMI and SDI simultaneous outputs. The FLEX 4K OUT is more compact and optimised for the FLEX form factor, with a single-cable focus. The STUDIO MINI has a studio-desk-friendly form factor. Contact us to discuss which better suits your specific installation.
All BirdDog devices output Full NDI — the highest quality NDI standard — making them immediately compatible with any NDI-capable production software on the local network.
NDI Production SoftwareBirdDog devices output Full NDI and are discovered automatically by all NDI-capable production software on the same Gigabit network subnet via mDNS. No manual IP configuration required.
