Blackmagic 2110 IP Mini BiDirect 12G
Bidirectional 12G-SDI to SMPTE ST 2110 IP conversion. Connect broadcast cameras and SDI infrastructure to a 2110 IP network in both directions simultaneously, with 5-pin XLR talkback.
- Bidirectional 12G-SDI to SMPTE ST 2110 IP — convert SDI camera feeds to 2110 IP for the network and receive a 2110 IP return feed back to SDI simultaneously in one unit
- 12G-SDI supports Ultra HD 4K at 2160p60 — the fastest SDI standard, covering all current 4K broadcast camera formats on the SDI side of the conversion
- 5-pin XLR talkback with volume control — professional broadcast intercom connectivity allows the camera operator to communicate with production without a separate talkback device
- PoE++ powered or DC powered — flexibility to power from the network switch or from a separate DC supply depending on the installation
- Compact 1/3 rack-width form factor — three units in one 1U rack space, consistent with the full 2110 IP Mini range for high-density broadcast rack installations
- Handles both camera feed (SDI to IP) and program return (IP to SDI) in one unit — replacing two separate directional converters with a single bidirectional device
What is the BiDirect 12G?
The 2110 IP Mini BiDirect 12G converts in both directions simultaneously — 12G-SDI camera feeds to SMPTE ST 2110 IP for distribution on the broadcast network, and 2110 IP program return back to 12G-SDI for the camera operator's return feed. This bidirectional operation in a single unit is the standard requirement at a camera position in a 2110 IP broadcast facility, replacing what would previously have required two separate unidirectional converters.
12G-SDI carries 4K Ultra HD at 2160p60 over a single BNC cable — the current standard for 4K broadcast cameras. The BiDirect 12G handles the full 12G-SDI bandwidth in both directions, future-proofing camera positions in 2110 IP infrastructure for 4K broadcast workflows.
Integrated talkback
The 5-pin XLR talkback connection with volume control and press-to-talk is an important differentiator from generic IP converters. In broadcast production, camera operators need a reliable talkback circuit to the production gallery regardless of what happens to the video signal. The BiDirect 12G embeds talkback in the 2110 IP stream and provides the 5-pin XLR connector at the camera end — a complete broadcast camera position interface in one 1/3 rack unit.
SFP variant available
For camera positions where fibre connection is required for longer cable runs — stadium camera positions, OB contributions beyond 100m, large venue infrastructure — the BiDirect 12G SFP uses an SFP socket instead of RJ-45, accepting 10G optical fibre modules while providing identical conversion and talkback functionality.

The BiDirect 12G is the standard camera-position converter for 2110 IP broadcast facilities — handling the complete two-way signal path and talkback at a broadcast camera position.
Broadcast Camera Positions
Install at each camera position in a 2110 IP broadcast studio or OB truck. The single unit handles the SDI camera feed to the network, the program return to the camera operator, and the talkback intercom circuit.
Stadium and Large Venue Cameras
Deploy at fixed camera positions throughout a stadium or large venue where 12G-SDI cameras feed into a 2110 IP production network. One unit per camera position replacing multiple separate components.
OB Truck Infrastructure
The 1/3 rack-width compact form and DC power option make the BiDirect 12G well-suited for OB truck rack installations where space and power efficiency are critical.
Live Sports Production
4K sports production with 12G-SDI cameras at every position — the BiDirect 12G provides the signal conversion and talkback at each camera without additional equipment.
Broadcast System Integration
Specified by broadcast integrators for the camera-position layer of SMPTE ST 2110 facility designs. The integrated talkback eliminates the need for a separate talkback system at each position.
Corporate Broadcast Facilities
Enterprise broadcast studios deploying 2110 IP infrastructure with SDI cameras — the BiDirect 12G bridges the SDI camera world to the IP backbone.
What does bidirectional mean in the context of this converter?
Bidirectional means the unit converts in both directions simultaneously. The camera's 12G-SDI output is converted to SMPTE ST 2110 IP for the broadcast network (camera feed direction). At the same time, a 2110 IP return feed from the production gallery is converted back to 12G-SDI for the camera operator's confidence monitor (return direction). Both happen concurrently in one unit.
Why does it need a 5-pin XLR talkback connection?
5-pin XLR is the standard professional broadcast talkback connector used with camera intercom systems (Clear-Com, RTS/Telex, Drake etc.). The BiDirect 12G embeds the talkback audio in the 2110 IP stream alongside the video, then provides the physical 5-pin XLR interface at the camera position for the operator's headset. This means a complete camera position interface — video, return and intercom — is handled by one unit.
What is the difference between the BiDirect 12G and the IP to HDMI?
The IP to HDMI converts in one direction only — 2110 IP to HDMI output for monitoring. The BiDirect 12G converts bidirectionally between 12G-SDI and 2110 IP, specifically for camera positions where both the camera feed and program return need to pass in opposite directions. These are complementary products for different points in a 2110 IP infrastructure.
The BiDirect 12G works within any SMPTE ST 2110 compliant broadcast network and is compatible with all major broadcast production infrastructure.
Broadcast Control and MonitoringBlackmagic 2110 IP Mini converters are compatible with any SMPTE ST 2110 compliant IP broadcast infrastructure. They appear as standard IP video endpoints on the network and work with all major broadcast production systems that support the SMPTE ST 2110 standard, including those from Grass Valley, Evertz, Ross Video and Sony.
