Blackmagic 2110 IP Mini BiDirect 12G SFP
The SFP optical fibre variant of the BiDirect 12G. Bidirectional 12G-SDI to SMPTE ST 2110 IP with XLR talkback — for long-distance camera positions beyond the range of copper Ethernet.
- SFP optical fibre connectivity — extends the bidirectional 12G-SDI to 2110 IP conversion to camera positions hundreds of metres or kilometres from the production network core via optical fibre
- Identical to the BiDirect 12G in all other respects — same bidirectional 12G-SDI to 2110 IP conversion, same 5-pin XLR talkback with volume control, same 1/3 rack form factor
- 5-pin XLR talkback at the camera position — professional intercom connectivity for the camera operator at any distance from the production gallery, embedded in the 2110 IP stream over fibre
- 12G-SDI for 4K Ultra HD at 2160p60 — full 12G-SDI bandwidth bidirectionally, covering all current 4K broadcast camera formats
- Accepts any 10G SFP module — multi-mode fibre (campus), single-mode fibre (long-range contribution), 10G copper SFP and Blackmagic SDI optical modules
- For large stadiums, campuses and any installation where camera positions are beyond 100m from the nearest 10G switch
The long-distance camera position converter
The BiDirect 12G SFP combines the full broadcast camera position functionality of the standard BiDirect 12G — bidirectional 12G-SDI to 2110 IP conversion with talkback — with the extended range capability of SFP optical fibre connectivity. It is the correct unit for camera positions that are too far from the production network core for standard copper 10G Ethernet cable runs.
In a typical large stadium deployment, production network switches are located in a central equipment room. Camera positions at the far end of the pitch, in elevated gantry positions or in corporate hospitality areas may be several hundred metres away. The BiDirect 12G SFP connects these positions to the 2110 IP network over the venue's optical fibre infrastructure, providing the same complete camera-position interface as the standard copper version regardless of the cable distance.
Talkback over fibre
Talkback circuits have traditionally required separate wiring alongside video cables at camera positions. The BiDirect 12G SFP embeds the talkback audio in the SMPTE ST 2110 IP stream carried by the optical fibre cable — meaning a single fibre carries both the video and the intercom circuit. The 5-pin XLR at the camera end provides the standard professional intercom interface the camera operator expects, regardless of whether the fibre run is 50m or 5km.

The BiDirect 12G SFP is the long-distance broadcast camera position converter — handling the complete 2110 IP camera interface over optical fibre.
Large Stadium Camera Positions
Connect 12G-SDI cameras at distant pitch-side, gantry and stadium bowl positions to the 2110 IP production network over the venue's existing optical fibre infrastructure.
Multi-Site Production
Link camera positions at remote sites to a central production facility over long-range single-mode fibre — news gathering, multi-site live events, remote studio contributions.
Large Venue Broadcast Integration
Specified for large venue broadcast infrastructure projects where camera positions are beyond copper Ethernet range and optical fibre cabling is already installed.
Campus Broadcasting
University and corporate campus broadcast facilities where camera positions in different buildings or across large campuses connect to a central 2110 IP production network via campus fibre.
Multi-Floor Facility
High-rise facilities where camera positions on different floors connect to a central broadcast equipment room via the building's vertical optical fibre riser.
Remote Sports Camera Positions
Press photography positions, commentary boxes and isolated camera locations around sports venues — all connected to the main production network over venue fibre with full talkback.
Is this the same as the BiDirect 12G but with SFP?
Yes — the BiDirect 12G SFP is identical to the standard BiDirect 12G in every respect except the network connector. The BiDirect 12G uses RJ-45 10G Ethernet (copper, to 100m). This SFP version uses an SFP socket for optical fibre connectivity at greater distances or where copper is not practical.
Does the SFP module come included?
No. SFP modules are specified and sourced separately based on your fibre type, distance and wavelength requirements. Contact us to discuss SFP module options for your specific installation.
Functionally identical to the BiDirect 12G in terms of broadcast infrastructure compatibility — works within any SMPTE ST 2110 compliant network with SFP optical connectivity.
Broadcast Control and MonitoringBlackmagic 2110 IP Mini converters are compatible with any SMPTE ST 2110 compliant IP broadcast infrastructure. They appear as standard IP video endpoints on the network and work with all major broadcast production systems that support the SMPTE ST 2110 standard, including those from Grass Valley, Evertz, Ross Video and Sony.
