What is the Kiloview S2?
The Kiloview S2 is a professional UHD 4K hardware encoder for permanent broadcast and production installations that need to distribute 4K video over a network. It accepts 4K HDMI 2.0 from cinema cameras, medical imaging systems, 4K PTZ cameras and AV sources, and outputs simultaneously to NDI|HX2 on the local production network, SRT for internet contribution, and RTMP to streaming platforms.
H.265 hardware encoding is central to the S2. At equivalent visual quality, H.265 requires approximately half the bitrate of H.264 — which matters when streaming 4K content where bandwidth costs and network headroom are constraints. The S2 achieves broadcast-quality 4K encoding at bitrates that are practical over real-world connections.
Dual Ethernet and flexible connectivity
The dual Gigabit Ethernet ports allow the S2 to operate on two separate networks simultaneously — production LAN for NDI and a management or streaming network for internet contribution. Combined with built-in Wi-Fi and a USB 4G dongle port, the S2 can maintain an internet connection via multiple paths.
NDI|HX2 on the local network
The S2 outputs NDI|HX2 using H.265 compression, making it compatible with all NDI-capable production software including vMix, OBS Studio (NDI plugin), Wirecast and Magewell Director. It appears as an NDI source automatically via mDNS discovery — no manual IP configuration required on the same subnet.
Deployment scenarios
The S2 suits permanent corporate studio installations, broadcast facilities adding 4K feeds to NDI infrastructure, medical imaging environments requiring 4K recording and streaming, and events where 4K SRT contribution to a CDN is required. Its combination of 4K HDMI and SDI inputs makes it flexible across different signal environments.

The Kiloview S2 suits professional environments needing simultaneous 4K network distribution and internet contribution streaming from one device.
Broadcast and Production Studios
Feed 4K cameras into an NDI|HX2 production network via vMix or Wirecast while simultaneously contributing a 4K SRT stream to a CDN or remote production facility. Dual Ethernet allows separation of production LAN and internet streaming traffic.
Medical and Surgical Imaging
Capture 4K HDMI from surgical cameras, endoscopy systems and medical imaging equipment for simultaneous recording and distribution. The HDMI 2.0 input handles 4K output from contemporary medical imaging systems that have moved beyond HD.
University and Higher Education
Distribute a 4K camera feed across campus NDI infrastructure and simultaneously stream to a lecture capture platform or YouTube Live. Web management allows remote configuration by IT staff without physical access.
Corporate Events
Contribution streaming of 4K content from a corporate studio to a CDN or internal streaming server via SRT, while feeding the same source as NDI to the local production system — all from one encoder.
Houses of Worship
Encode a 4K camera feed for simultaneous IMAG distribution on the internal NDI network and live streaming to YouTube, Facebook and additional RTMP platforms simultaneously.
Remote Contribution
SRT contribution from a 4K source at a remote location to a central production facility over the internet, with AES-256 encryption. The 4G dongle port provides a cellular fallback path when fixed broadband is unavailable.
What is NDI|HX2 and how does it differ from Full NDI?
NDI|HX2 uses H.265 compression to transmit video at 5 to 40 Mbps, significantly lower than Full NDI at 100 to 250 Mbps per 1080p60 source. The S2 outputs NDI|HX2, which works on standard Gigabit networks and even Wi-Fi. All NDI production software including vMix, OBS and Wirecast receives NDI|HX2 alongside Full NDI sources without any configuration difference.
Can the S2 stream to YouTube and output NDI at the same time?
Yes. The S2 outputs NDI|HX2 to the local network and streams via RTMP to YouTube or SRT to a CDN simultaneously from the same encoding source. Both outputs run concurrently from the single HDMI or SDI input without any signal splitting required.
What is the difference between using HDMI and SDI input on the S2?
HDMI 2.0 supports 4K at up to 60fps. 3G-SDI supports up to 1080p60. HDMI is the standard for cameras, laptops and AV equipment. SDI is the broadcast standard for studio cameras. The S2 accepts either input — you select the active source in the web interface.
Does the S2 require any software installation?
No software installation is required on the encoding side. The S2 is a standalone hardware device managed via a web browser. On the receiving side, NDI production software requires built-in NDI support or the NDI plugin to discover and receive the stream.
Can I use a 4G SIM card with the S2?
The S2 includes a USB 2.0 port for a 4G LTE USB dongle. This provides an additional internet path for SRT and RTMP streaming when fixed broadband is unavailable. The dongle is not included — contact us to discuss compatible options for your mobile operator.
The S2 outputs NDI|HX2 to any NDI production software, streams via SRT and RTMP to internet platforms, and can be managed via REST API for automated workflows.
