The Magewell Pro Convert 12G SDI 4K Plus is the highest-specification encoder in the Pro Convert SDI range — bringing 12G-SDI 4K60 sources into IP production networks via NDI, SRT and RTMP. It handles the output of the most demanding professional broadcast cameras: Sony VENICE 2, Arri Alexa 35, professional studio cameras and top-specification PTZ systems all use 12G-SDI for 4K output.
By encoding at the camera or source position, the Pro Convert 12G SDI 4K Plus eliminates the need for 12G-SDI infrastructure between the camera and the production system. A single Ethernet cable carries 4K NDI from the encoder to any NDI-capable application on the network — vMix, OBS with NDI plugin, Wirecast, Vizrt, NDI Studio Monitor and any NDI switcher.
The PoE power option means the same Ethernet cable that carries the NDI stream also powers the encoder — a significant advantage in broadcast facilities and remote locations where a separate power circuit at each camera position is impractical.
4K NDI — The IP Alternative to 12G Infrastructure
12G-SDI infrastructure — 12G-rated patch bays, routing switchers and cable runs — is expensive to install and maintain. The Pro Convert 12G SDI 4K Plus provides an alternative: encode 12G-SDI to 4K NDI at the camera, and distribute over standard Ethernet infrastructure already in place in the facility.
This is particularly valuable in broadcast facilities transitioning from SDI to IP infrastructure, in remote production setups where 12G-SDI cable runs would be cost-prohibitive, and in new installations where Ethernet infrastructure is already in place but 12G-SDI routing is not justified.
