Broadcast SDI to the Internet — Standalone
Professional broadcast environments run on SDI. Studio cameras, remote camera heads, production switcher outputs and broadcast graphics systems all output SDI as the standard signal format. The Magewell Ultra Stream SDI bridges this professional broadcast infrastructure directly to internet streaming platforms — without a PC in the signal chain.
The SDI input accepts SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI signals, covering the full range of professional broadcast camera formats in use today. Connect to any SDI output — from a simple studio camera to the programme output of a broadcast production switcher — and the Ultra Stream SDI handles encoding and delivery to streaming platforms automatically.
This makes it particularly valuable in broadcast facilities, news environments and venues with established SDI infrastructure that need to add streaming capability without modifying existing signal chains or adding PC-based encoding.
Simpler Than a Laptop Encoder
The alternative to a standalone hardware encoder like the Ultra Stream SDI is a laptop running OBS Studio or vMix with a USB SDI capture device. This works, but it introduces a computer into the signal chain — with all the maintenance, update cycles and potential instability that implies for a live broadcast environment.
The Ultra Stream SDI eliminates this. It is configured once via its web interface and thereafter operates autonomously. It does not require software updates before every event, does not risk streaming failures from OS conflicts, and does not need an operator physically present to restart it if a stream drops. It reconnects and re-streams automatically.
