NDI into SDI Infrastructure

The Magewell Pro Convert NDI to SDI enables NDI sources to be received at any point in an existing SDI infrastructure without replacing that infrastructure. An NDI camera feed, vMix output or SRT contribution stream can be decoded to SDI and fed into SDI routing switchers, SDI monitors, SDI recording systems and SDI distribution infrastructure already in place.

This is a critical device for broadcast facilities transitioning from SDI to IP workflows — NDI sources can be introduced into the facility while the existing SDI infrastructure continues to operate, with NDI to SDI decoders bridging the two systems.

Protecting the SDI Investment

Broadcast facilities with extensive SDI infrastructure — routing switchers, patch bays, SDI monitors and SDI recording systems — can adopt NDI-based production without writing off the SDI investment. Can it feed an SDI routing switcher?

Yes. The SDI output from the Pro Convert NDI to SDI is a standard 3G-SDI signal compatible with any SDI routing switcher, monitor, recorder or distribution device. It is electrically identical to any other SDI signal on the facility routing system.

What NDI versions does it support?

Full NDI, NDI|HX and NDI|HX2 — all three NDI generations. The decoder handles whichever version the NDI source is outputting.

Can it decode SRT streams from remote locations?

Yes. SRT streams from remote encoders and contribution feeds can be received and decoded directly to SDI output — no additional software or hardware required between the SRT source and the SDI destination.

What is the advantage over NDI to AIO at the same price?

The Pro Convert NDI to SDI (£338) has a single SDI output only. The Pro Convert NDI to AIO (£338) has HDMI, SDI and analogue outputs simultaneously from one device. At the same price, the AIO provides more output flexibility. The NDI to SDI is appropriate where a single SDI output point is required.
