Magewell USB Capture DVI Plus
DVI to USB 3.0 with loop-through — driverless capture for medical, scientific and legacy DVI equipment.
- DVI-D input with DVI loop-through — capture DVI sources while maintaining the connected display, with zero signal interruption to existing equipment
- Compatible with DVI-D, VGA (via DVI adapter) and legacy display signals from medical equipment, scientific instruments and older AV systems
- Discrete 3.5mm audio input — embed external microphone or line-level audio alongside the DVI video capture
- Driverless UVC operation — no drivers required on Windows, macOS, Linux or ChromeOS, critical in managed IT environments and medical facilities
- Bus powered via USB — completely portable with no external power supply, suitable for field service and equipment calibration
- Magewell SDK available for custom medical imaging and industrial monitoring software development on all major platforms
DVI and Legacy Signal Capture
DVI remains the dominant video output format across a wide range of specialist equipment that may not be updated for many years — surgical cameras, ultrasound and endoscopy systems, patient monitoring displays, laboratory instruments, industrial quality control systems and legacy AV installations.
The Magewell USB Capture DVI Plus provides a reliable, professional-grade bridge between these DVI sources and modern software workflows. Its DVI loop-through output maintains the original display connection throughout — the equipment operates normally while capture happens silently alongside.
The discrete 3.5mm audio input is particularly valuable with medical and scientific equipment where audio commentary, procedure narration or instrument data audio needs to be captured separately from the video output.
Critical for Medical and Scientific Environments
In medical environments, DVI capture has specific requirements. Equipment cannot be taken offline, driver installation may be prohibited by compliance requirements, and the capture device must not introduce any signal latency to the display. The USB Capture DVI Plus satisfies all three requirements simultaneously.
The driverless UVC design means it works in locked-down NHS workstations, in Citrix and virtual desktop environments, and in equipment where software installation requires formal approval processes. Plug it in and it works immediately.

The USB Capture DVI Plus is uniquely suited to specialist professional environments where DVI remains the predominant or required signal format.
Surgical Camera Systems
Capture DVI output from endoscopes, laparoscopic cameras, ophthalmic cameras and robotic surgical systems for procedure recording, remote surgical observation, case documentation and medical simulation replay.
Laboratory & Scientific Instruments
Scientific instruments including electron microscopes, spectrometers, PCR analysis equipment and medical diagnostic systems output DVI for display. The loop-through maintains the instrument display while data is captured for research records and reports.
Simulation & Procedural Training
Medical simulation centres, military training facilities and aviation simulators using DVI displays can capture procedure sessions for debriefing, competency assessment and training programme development.
Patient Monitoring & ICU Systems
Patient monitoring displays and intensive care unit equipment with DVI outputs can have data captured for telemedicine consultation, remote specialist review and long-term patient record documentation.
Industrial Quality Control
Machine vision systems, coordinate measuring machines and quality control equipment outputting DVI video can be captured for defect documentation, compliance records and process optimisation analysis.
Legacy AV in Higher Education
Universities with older presentation and teaching equipment using DVI outputs can add capture capability to legacy lecture room installations without costly hardware replacement.
Research & Academic Institutions
University research departments using specialist equipment with DVI outputs can capture experimental data, instrument readings and observational footage for academic publication and grant reporting.
Legal & Forensic Documentation
Forensic analysis equipment and legal demonstration systems with DVI outputs can be captured for court exhibits, case documentation and evidentiary recording.
Legacy System Integration
AV integrators and IT teams supporting organisations with large installed bases of DVI equipment can use the DVI Plus to bridge legacy signals into modern IP workflows without full infrastructure replacement.
