Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro

HDMI 2.0 4K60 capture with dual USB output — two computers capture the same 4K source simultaneously and independently.

  • Dual USB output — the same HDMI 4K source is simultaneously delivered to two separate computers or applications, each receiving an independent 4K stream
  • HDMI 2.0 input — true 4K UHD capture at up to 3840×2160 @ 60fps from any HDMI 2.0 camera, source or presentation system
  • Genlock input — synchronise dual-output capture to external reference for frame-accurate broadcast production timing
  • Driverless UVC — both USB outputs present as independent UVC devices on their respective hosts, no drivers required on any OS
  • Bus powered — operates entirely from the USB connections, no external power supply required
  • Used for simultaneous live stream + independent archive, dual-viewer applications, and redundant capture configurations

Simultaneous Dual-Computer 4K Capture

The fundamental differentiator of the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro is its dual USB output capability. Two separate computers receive the same 4K HDMI source simultaneously and completely independently — each has its own USB connection, its own UVC device instance, and its own capture stream.

This eliminates the need for signal splitters, video distribution amplifiers or duplicate camera setups in workflows that require the same source to be captured by multiple systems. The live stream computer and the archive recording computer both see the same full-resolution 4K feed without any hardware between them.

Redundancy and Simultaneous Workflows

Dual capture enables workflow patterns that single-output devices cannot support. Live streaming on one computer while the other records a clean archive. Two analysis applications processing the same feed simultaneously. A production system and a monitoring system both receiving the same source. A primary workstation and a backup capture station running in parallel.

These patterns are common in broadcast production, high-value event coverage, medical imaging and any workflow where the cost of missing a moment outweighs the cost of redundant capture infrastructure.

For SDI equivalent with dual USB output, see the USB Capture SDI 4K Pro (£441).

Specifications sourced from Magewell product documentation. Contact us to confirm suitability for your specific application.

The USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro is specified wherever a single 4K source must reach two independent systems simultaneously — eliminating signal splitters and redundancy infrastructure.

📡

Live Stream + Independent Archive

Stream 4K content to YouTube or a CDN from one computer while independently recording a clean 4K archive to a second system — both from the same camera feed, no signal splitter required.

🔄

Primary + Backup Capture Redundancy

Critical event productions can run a primary capture workstation and a hot-standby backup simultaneously from the same source. If the primary fails, the backup is already recording without any intervention.

🔬

4K Medical Dual-Display Systems

Surgical teams and medical educators can simultaneously capture 4K procedure video for the theatre record while providing a live feed to a remote observation room or telemedicine consultation system.

Sports — Replay + Broadcast Simultaneously

Sports productions can feed a 4K camera to both a broadcast encoder for live output and a replay server for instant replays, both operating independently without additional distribution hardware.

🏢

Corporate Events — Multi-Destination Capture

High-profile corporate events requiring simultaneous internal recording and external streaming can route a single 4K camera to both systems without investing in video distribution infrastructure.

🎓

4K Educational — Capture + Student Review

Universities can capture 4K lectures simultaneously to the institutional archive (Panopto, Kaltura) and to a real-time student viewer system, both receiving full-resolution 4K from a single camera.

🎬

Post-Production — Ingest + Reference

Dual-computer 4K ingest enables simultaneous capture to an editing workstation and a quality control monitoring station, both processing the same source independently.

🔐

Compliance & Regulatory Recording

Industries requiring dual independent recordings for compliance purposes can capture the same regulated event to two independent archive systems simultaneously from one source.

⚙️

Multi-Application Development

Developers building multi-consumer capture pipelines — where two different applications process the same 4K source — can eliminate the complexity of shared-memory video frameworks by using dual physical USB outputs.

Do both USB outputs deliver the full 4K resolution simultaneously?

Yes. Both USB outputs simultaneously deliver the full 4K UHD (up to 3840×2160 @ 60fps) stream independently. Each output connects to a separate host computer and presents as an independent UVC capture device on that host.

Do both computers need to be capturing for the device to work?

No. You can use the device with only one USB output connected and actively capturing — the second output can be connected later or left unused. The device functions as a standard single-output 4K capture card when only one USB output is in use.

What is the difference between the HDMI 4K Plus and the HDMI 4K Pro?

The USB Capture HDMI 4K Plus (£385) has a single USB output for capture on one computer. The USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro (£415) has dual USB outputs, allowing two computers to independently capture the same 4K source simultaneously. The Pro is the correct choice whenever two systems need the same 4K source.

Does each USB output have its own independent power?

The device is bus powered. When connected to two USB hosts simultaneously, it draws power from both connections. If using only one USB connection, the second output may require an external USB power source to function correctly.
